The UAE team has won four Gold, two Silver and three Bronze medals during the championship in which 800 contestants from 10 countries vied for honour.

WEITH CATEGORY:88KG June 21 EMIRATES BJJ TEAM IN JAPAN AND VEGAS:  The Emirates Jiu-Jitsu Team Head Coach Carlos Santos, together with the coaches Olavo Abreu and Suyan Queiroz and 15 emirati fighters will go to Japan on June 24th, 2009. They will be representing the UAE at the Rickson Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Cup 2009. The event is organized by JJFJ and will be held in the Hamamatsu Arena on June 28th. After this event half of the team will be heading to New York for one week training with Renzo Gracie. The coaches and the team will then meet again in Las Vegas on July 6th. There they will represent the UAE in the Grapplers Quest UFC 100, on July 10th and 11th, in Mandala Bay, Las vegas. For the 1st time in Japan and USA, the Emirates Team will keep up the main objectives: Promoting the Jiu-Jitsu in the UAE and promoting Abu Dhabi as the World Capital of the Professional Jiu-Jitsu. A.E. 20 people will be arriving in Japan, representing Abu Dhabi. The president of IPJJF and head coach of the Emirates Jiu-Jitsu, Carlos Santos will be accompanying the group to the event. This group trip is being sponsored by the Crown Prince of the UAE, H.H. Sheikh Mohamad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, who also sponsored the World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Cup, held in May this year. Alliance takes the team title Submitted by:Kid Peligro Roger Gracie was simply superior as he conquered the weight and Absolute titles once again and with all submission victories. The incerdible performance capped a flawless event in which Roger submitted all his opponents. Roger reached his 7th consecutive absolute title final and captured his second Absolute title by submitting Romulo Barral with a choke from the mount (his choice submission for this event) . Romulo Barral won the Medium heavy over Tarsys Humphries by judges decision. Roger won the Suoer-heavy submitting Ricardo Demente with a . . . choke from the mount. Bruno Malfacine defeated Caio Terra by 2 x 0, while in the Super-feather Guilherme Mendes beat Samuel Braga by advantage. Braga was disqualified by the refereeing committee for striking his opponent at the end of the match. In the feather it was once again the dominant Rubens "Cobrinha" with a tough victory over arch-rival Bruno Frazzato by judges decision. In the light Michel Langhi defeated Gilbert "Durinho" by 9 x 2 while in the medium Marcelo Garcia and Sergio Moraes did a "paper, rock & scissor" to reach a decision with Marcelo wining the title and Sergio the medal. Braulio Estima won the heavy over Aleandre de Souza by 2 x 0 while Gabriel Vella defeated Rodrigo Cavaca by advantages. The ladies saw Leticia Ribeiro win over Michelle Nicolini by advantages, Bianca Barreto submitted Shyoda Sayaka with a quick arm-lock, Luana Alzuguir defeated Kyra Gracie by points, Hanette Quadros won over Monica Vanessa by points while Penny Thomas submitted Valerie Worthington. In the Heavy Lana Staphanac submitted Luka Diaz. In the absolute Lana Staphanac won over Kyra Gracie by points. Alliance team dominated the team title winning a lot of gold in the Black Belt division followed by Gracie Barra and Check Mat. Gracie Humaita took the team gold in the ladies followed by Gracie Barra and Renzo Gracie Team. June 02 BRASIL GREEN WORLD CUP Brazil eager to stage 'green' World Cup
Dubai: Brazil, the nursery of football talent, was to unveil more than just venues when the 12 cities hosting the 2014 Fifa World Cup were to be made public by Fifa late last night. The Brazilian government headed by President Lula da Silva has put together a campaign for hosting a "green World Cup" in 2014. Last night's announcement follow's the world governing body's extension of the deadline by two weeks. Fifa had originally wanted just 10 host cities, but Brazil made an appeal and got another two based on its vision of staging a "green" World Cup. Five cities - Brasilia, Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Belo Horizonte and Porto Alegre - are already guaranteed host status. Another 12 are vying for the remaining seven places, including Curitiba and Florianopolis in the south; Campo Grande, Cuiaba and Gioania in the mid-west; Salvador, Natal, Recife and Fortaleza in the north-east, along with the Amazonian cities of Rio Branco, Manaus and Belem. Rio Branco, Manaus and Belem look strong due to their campaigns built on eco-tourism, but they will surely find it difficult to get past what has been achieved by Campo Grande, the capital of the state Mato Grosso do Sul, nicknamed Cidade Morena (Brown City) due to the richness of its soil. Campo Grande is offering the greenest credentials of any venue. It already has an agreement with Masdar City in the UAE. This development is working alongside Campo Grande to make their potential World Cup stadium, owned and housed within the local university, the world's first zero-carbon, zero-waste arena. The city council is going a step further to make the World Cup an affair to remember - they will ask each fan visiting Campo Grande to plant a tree with their name at the base as a remembrance of the great event. President Lula da Silva has thrown his weight behind such an initiative. "Fifa has a responsibility now. If they don't make Campo Grande one of the venues, they will have to explain why," he told the local media recently. The Campo Grande council has begun talks with the Maldives over a partnership that will highlight their plight to the world. The Maldives are threatened by rising sea levels. Campo Grande has an excellent location as it borders five Brazilian states and is also near Bolivia, Argentina and Paraguay. It also has a ready-made 45,000 capacity stadium and a Unesco World Heritage Site in Pantanal. |
